About Chuck

family potrait

Chuck Meyer is a business and high technology lawyer, patent attorney, appellate advocate and start-up business counsel serving clients domestically and abroad in a wide variety of ventures. Originally called to the bar over 30 years ago, Chuck has had the privilege of working for a Federal District Judge and a State Supreme Justice as a judicial law clerk. He is the former Chief Legal Officer of Research in Motion (now BlackBerry) and also worked for Compaq (now HP) as an in-house intellectual property law focused on software IP matters. He also was recently a partner in one of the first cloud-based law firms, FisherBroyles, LLP. Chuck now runs his own law firm, The Law Firm of Chuck Meyer, PLLC, and is also an Assistant District Attorney for Hardin County, Texas for Writs and Appeals.

Chuck, his wife of 36 years, Monika Voigt Meyer, and his three daughters Kathryn, Emily and Laura, have lived in Montgomery County, Texas, for most of the past twenty years. For three of those twenty years, the Meyer Family lived outside London, England, while Chuck served as the business head of BlackBerry Europe. The Meyer children were educated in both public and private schools in the County since 1998. Kathryn is now married and splits her time between Cleveland, Ohio, where she is a law student at Case Western University and a designated Hugo Grotius International Law Fellow, and Fort Worth, where her spouse lives. Laura is in her final year of her undergraduate studies.  She will be either entering the work force as a biomedical engineer or she will pursue graduate study in biomedical engineering in the fall of 2020.  Emily is  home bound and bed-bound as a Juvenile Batten Disease victim in the final phase of her life. For more information on Juvenile Batten Disease, please visit http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/juvenile-batten-disease or use “Juvenile Batten Disease” as a search phrase on your search engine.  Emily's saga and struggles are documented on her facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/EndeavorsofEmily/

Unlike most candidates for judicial office, Chuck would bring a unique perspective to the bench – one that is greatly influenced by his varied and diverse career path within and outside the field of law. His first professional job was as an electronics communications engineer at the Pentagon followed by a stint at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner. During his time at the patent office, Chuck put himself through law school at night at The American University’s Washington College of Law. He began work as an attorney almost immediately after graduation, as an interim associate at the well-respected international law firm of Jones Day.   From that time until 2000, Chuck was engaged in the full-time practice of law, at which time he was chosen to be the business executive in charge of BlackBerry Europe in an office complex just outside London, England. After his business leadership role with BlackBerry, Chuck entered academia as a graduate student in law at Oxford University, England, receiving a Bachelor of Civil Law degree (Oxford’s Master of Laws degree) in 2005. From there, Chuck became a visiting professor of law at first the University of Houston and the following year, the University of Pittsburgh. These professional and academic opportunities have given him a broader view of the functioning of society than he would have had were he to have only practiced law in his professional life.

He is an active member of several community, professional and political organizations, including The Woodlands Rotary Club, which in 2015 named him a Paul Harris Fellow for his service on the public relations committee of the Club, and for whom he serves as Archivist and Parliamentarian.  Chuck is also a member of The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, the Houston International Arbitrators Club and the Knights of Columbus Council 12327, which meets at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, where he is a parishioner.  He is honored to be selected as a member of the Texas Bar College. As noted on its website, the Texas Bar College is an honorary society of lawyers who are among the best trained attorneys in Texas. Members are qualified attorneys who are interested in both high ethical standards and improved training for all Texas attorneys.   Additionally, true to his belief that judges should not legislate from the bench and should strictly apply the plain wording of the Federal and Texas Constitutions, Chuck is proud of his membership in the Federalist Society of Law and Policy Studies.

Politically, Chuck has been a Republican since his college days, when he became involved in the campaign of Ronald Reagan for President. He is the founding past president of the Lone Star Republicans and was a delegate to the 2016 National Republican Convention. He was part of the legal team in Ohio during both the 2016 Presidential Election with the Trump Election Day Operations Team in Ohio, and the 2012 Presidential Election with Lawyers for Romney seeking to ensure that ballots were cast legally throughout the State of Ohio.   He currently is a member of the National Republican Lawyers Association and is an associate member of a number of Republican Women organizations.
